StarQuest Data Replicator : fast, reliable, full-refresh data replication between DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle databases.

The StarQuest Data Replicator (SQDR) software provides:

  • full-refresh (snapshot) data replication
  • bi-directional replication between heterogeneous database systems
  • flexible scheduling
  • enterprise-level security
  • easy-to-use GUI and Wizards
  • fast, reliable performance
  • comprehensive management function including statistics

StarQuest Data Replicator (SQDR) efficiently replicates data between IBM DB2, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases, providing necessary data integration for Internet and intranet publishing and electronic commerce, data warehousing and data mining. SQDR directly enables these solutions through robust and efficient bi-directional snapshot replication of data.

StarQuest also offers the separately licensed components SQDR Plus for iSeries and SQDR Plus for DB2 UDB that provide incremental replication support for SQDR users. Incremental replications copy only the data that has changed, reducing the amount of data that is transferred and allowing the replication to occur more frequently.

Meeting Mission Critical Database Replication Needs

When you're integrating a client/server application, a data warehouse, or the latest system for the Web, ease of use and comprehensive administration are key requirements. SQDR meets these requirements by providing advanced tools for easy system setup and centralized graphical administration of all replication functions, including filtering, scheduling, and statistics gathering.

FEATURES

Bi-directional Replication

In a heterogeneous environment, applications generally require sending data from the host to distributed systems and consolidation of data from distributed systems to the host. To satisfy these diverse needs, SQDR allows you to move data between IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle databases.

Flexible Replication Options

SQDR supports replication of selected columns ("vertical partitioning"), selected rows ("horizontal partitioning"), and replication of selected columns from selected rows (combined vertical and horizontal partitioning). The replicated data can either replace existing tables or be merged on a row-by-row basis. SQDR also supports derived destination columns and data transformations, including automatic conversion of date and timestamps.

Flexible Scheduling

SQDR allows you to control the timing of the replication. Whether it's a repeatable one-time on-demand replication, a one-time scheduled replication, or recurring replication at predefined times, SQDR lets you replicate your data when needed.

Security with Use of Management

Mission-critical data requires mission-critical security. That's why SQDR is fully integrated with both SQL Server/Windows NT security and the native security of your DB2 system.

Complete Statistics

SQDR provides full statistics so you can monitor and view replication activity using the SQDR Manager or Windows NT Performance Monitor. For each replication operation, you can track:

  • Throughput
  • Number of bytes transferred
  • Elapsed time

Availability of v3.76 of the StarQuest Data Replicator

  • Support for SQL Server 2012
  • Unicode support
  • Support for replication of CLOB Wide Character data (SQL_WLONGVARCHAR) and XML data
  • Ability to use DSN-less connection strings when configuring Sources and Destinations,

SQDR System Requirements

You can install and run the StarQuest Data Replicator (SQDR) software on any of the following operating systems:

  • Windows Server 2003 or Server 2008
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP Professional or Home Edition

The Data Replicator requires a control database in which to store definitions for sources, destinations, and subscriptions. You can use any of the following editions of SQL Server for the SQDR control database. If you do not already have a SQL Server installation, you can obtain the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) or SQL Server Express free of charge from www.microsoft.com/downloads (search for MSDE). The SQDR Technical Document Installing SQL Server for a Control Database provides more information about obtaining and installing MSDE 2000 or SQL Server Express for use as an SQDR control database.

  • SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A, or MSDE 2000 SP3a or SP4
  • SQL Server 2000 with SP3a or SP4
  • SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server Express
  • SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server Express
  • SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server Express

Using SQDR, you can replicate data to and from any of the following database systems:

  • DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS v5.1 and later (including DB2 9 for z/OS)
  • DB2 for i (formerly known as DB2/400, DB2 UDB for iSeries, and DB2 for i5/OS) running OS/400 V3R2 and later (including DB2 for i v6r1)
  • DB2 Universal Database (UDB) v6.x and later for UNIX and Windows (including DB2 UDB v9.5)
  • SQL/DS (DB2 for VM & VSE) v3.3 and later (including DB2 for VM & VSE v7.5)
  • SQL Server 2012
  • SQL Server 2008
  • SQL Server 2005
  • SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A, or MSDE 2000 SP3a or SP4
  • SQL Server 2000 with SP3a or SP4
  • SQL Server v7.0 with at least SP1 (v7.00.699), although SP4 or the current service pack is recommended
  • Oracle 8i or later (including Oracle 11i)
  • MySQL 4.1 or later
  • Kognitio WX2 7.1 or later
  • Apache Derby (JavaDB) 10.3 or later (experimental)

IBM Informix Extended Parallel Server 8.50 and higher
    IBM Informix SE 7.25
IBM Informix OnLine 5.20 and higher

Incremental replication is supported from OS/400 v5r2 and later using SQDR Plus for iSeries, and also from DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX, and Windows v8.2 and later using SQDR Plus for DB2 UDB. SQDR Plus is licensed separately from the base SQDR product.

StarQuest Data Replicator Plus

StarQuest now offers the separately licensed component, SQDR Plus, to provide incremental data replication support for SQDR users. SQDR Plus is currently available for IBM iSeries, including IBM i 6.1 (i5/OS V6R1), and for IBM DB2 UDB for Linux, UNIX and Windows, including DB2 for Linux UNIX and Windows v9.7.

Benefits

SQDR Plus is the solution of choice for companies who need real-time data replication and database synchronization. The significant benefits that SQDR Plus provides are:

  • High performance and efficiency - incremental replication copies only the data that has changed, which significantly reduces the amount of data that is transferred compared to snapshot replication.
  • "Real-time" mirroring - SQDR and SQDR Plus can now be configured so that subscribers receive updates almost instantaneously after they are committed on the source database.
  • Comprehensive statistics and easy-to-use graphical interface and Wizards.
  • Enterprise-level security, allowing only operations that are permitted by the operating system, database system, and network.
  • Ability to replicate what you want, when you want, with horizontal and vertical partitioning and flexible subscription scheduling.
  • Flexibility in choosing which unique identifier - a Relative Record Number, a unique index or primary key - is used to replicate changes to the target database.
  • Centralized "publish" control, allowing an administrator to restrict which database tables can be subscribed to for replication.

SQDR Plus for iSeries Requirements

  • OS/400 v5r2, v5r3, v5r4, or v6r1
  • Java Developer Kit v1.4 or later (5722JV1 option 6 on OS/400 v5rX)
  • Group and individual PTF's (Program Temporary Fixes) as listed in the product readme file
  • To install SQDR Plus for iSeries, you will need a graphical workstation (Windows, MacOS X, or UNIX with X Windows) with Java installed and TCP/IP connectivity to the target iSeries machine. To run the installer directly from the AS/400, you must configure a remote GUI environment with X Windows or VNC (Virtual Network Computing).
